Kileigh at SkillsUSA

In June, GKHS student Kileigh traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the SkillsUSA Nationals [career readiness conference] through KEC! While there she placed ninth overall in the country in the category of Job Place Demonstration. She demonstrated how to do a safety/morning check on her SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus).

This was Kileighs first time attending the event and she hopes to make the conference again next year for the EMT competition instead. “I was extremely nervous and even asked my instructor to look at the list to see if I made it or not,” said Kileigh.

Kileigh was inspired to join the science program by her family, her brother went through the same program and she realized this is something she wanted to do as well. After high school, Kileigh said, “I plan to take the national test for EMT/BOF [emergency medical technician/basic operation firefighter] and receive a full-time position to gain experience and then go to paramedic school.”

Congratulations, Kileigh!
