Boys Soccer Gearing Up for Postseason
With the regular season coming to a close, the GKHS boys soccer team has gone 11-3-6 [wins-ties-losses] and earned the #3 seed in the IHSA sectionals playing Hinckley-Big Rock for regional semi-finals at Hinckley on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 7:00 PM. This year the team has seen more communication and positivity on and off the field. From Freshman to Seniors their coach, Thomas Moore, has seen the teams growth, dedication and desire to win flourish during the regular season.
“I hope all of the players realize that overall - the season has been a real success,” said coach Moore. “We lost 11 seniors last year but the fact that we as a team have come back and are competitive is awesome to see!”
Senior Night on September 28 was a bittersweet moment for the team, they beat Marengo 5-1 and also celebrated their seniors. Coach Moore looks to the seniors on the team to be the leaders in practice and during stretches and model what the drills are. “Our seniors are leaders in practice and on the field for games,” said Moore. For Coach Moore, this season has been a great success and he hopes to keep the momentum going during the postseason run.
A few of the seniors shared how they feel moving into postseason:
Blake: “I hope we can make it as far as we can!”
Danny: “We are feeling pretty good, I hope we can make it as far as we can and go farther than we did last year!”
Jay: “I am hoping we make it far! Keep practicing hard, I believe we can do it. We just gotta keep believing in ourselves.”
Michael: “I hope we put in the practice everyday when no one is watching and we become better!”
We would like to wish the team good luck in their postseason competition!
