Genoa-Kingston School District 424 Announces Transition In Leadership
On Tuesday, September 26, 2023 The Genoa-Kingston School District 424 Board of Education accepted the resignation of Interim Superintendent, Dr. Griff Powell effective October 9, 2023 and approved the appointment of the following effective on October 10, 2023 - June 30,2024:
Genoa-Kingston High School Principal, Dr. Matt Cascio as Interim Superintendent.
Genoa Elementary School Principal Ms. Rhonda Andrews, as Interim Principal at GKHS.
Kingston Elementary School Principal Mrs. Stefanie Hill, as Principal of GES.
First grade teacher Mrs. Sandy Uecker, as Interim Principal at KES.
Plans for the first grade teacher position will be formally announced on October 10.
Due to unforeseen health concerns Dr. Griff Powell will be stepping down as Interim Superintendent at Genoa-Kingston School District.
“It has been a privilege serving this community and working with all of the staff at Genoa-Kingston,” said Dr. Powell. “In the time that I have been here, I feel Dr. Cascio will step into this leadership position very well for the remainder of the school year.”
Dr. Cascio has served as the GKHS Principal since the 2020-2021 school year. During his time at GK he has worked with staff to move the graduation rate to 95%, collaborated with staff to create a more positive working environment and increased the ninth grade on track [graduation] rate to a projected 97%. He has earned his Masters from NIU and an EdD at Aurora University.
Dr. Cascio’s Statement:
“Dr. Powell’s leadership has been an asset and I look forward to continuing the great work he has started. In October, I will transition into the Interim Superintendent position and begin collaborating with staff across the district and community. We will continue to work towards our Strategic Plan goals and uphold our mission statement.”
Matt Krueger, Board President stated,“We are proud to have a strong leadership team with the credentials to fill these roles for the remainder of the school year as we continue the search for our permanent Superintendent.”
